The awkward relationship between the BC SPCA and meat

Is the SPCA’s insistence on serving meat at their events about animal welfare or really just to broaden appeal and improve fundraising? Does their distinction between animal welfare and rights allows them to pick and choose the level of protection and type of animal to which its afforded? Even if you eat meat, please just consider this post in light of what the SPCA is supposed to be.

Darby; a dog’s life in pictures

I’ve been grappling with something for ten months, when we had to put Darby down. I had intended to write a retrospective post about her life, and started to do so a few times, but I could never find a way to cover eleven years properly. I’ve finally come to the conclusion that, where a dog is concerned, pictures speak much louder than words.

2014 Victoria Granfondo; riding ugly

On most any count that matters, it was a great day. The ugly was pretty much all me and my legs. I can’t really complain because the weather was great, the course was beautiful, the on-course volunteers killed it, and I had no mechanicals or bike-related issues. I was probably a good 40 minutes slower than I’d hoped, but pretty much anything can happen during 264km on a bike with lots of climbing.

A fine BCPSEA and BCTF mess

There’s enough blame in this dispute to go around. A government that breaks contracts and a union with bad optics and a weak financial position. You’d think the adults could sit down and talk, but that’s challenging when the sides completely mistrust one another. I don’t think the focus in this thing is where it should be.
