Endorphins & Interactions

Web UX, running, cycling and other stuff by James Wanless

About

on the trailsMy work is typically the components of design often referred to as user experience – information architecture (IA), interaction design (IxD) and usability. Throw in a dash of project management and WordPress, and that’s pretty much my day job.

At their core, I believe that good user experiences are all about well-designed interactions; no one designs an individual experience, but rather the elements that form the experience. Good design of any kind helps people solve problems, communicate, share and learn. To that end, in my work, I primarily focus on making web and interactive things work as well as I can for their end-users. What I do usually is some combination of analysis and research, strategy and design and project management. Sometimes I write about that kind of stuff.

The (non) meat of me

For the most part – at least the part where I am not at a desk in a basement cubicle – I’m a husband and father, runner, cyclist, atheist, vegetarian, and many other things. Often I write about that kind of stuff. You’ll find lots of race reports, training posts, thoughts on food and some rants about how we treat animals, amongst other things.

You’ll also find the odd photo, tweet or thing I bookmark. Outside of all the aforementioned, I’m a lapsed full-time musician (who still bangs away on the digital drums). Some day I’ll get some recording done again, or maybe some of the old analog stuff will find its way to digital format.

This site

This is powered by WordPress and the theme was designed by me. It began way back with the basic files from the old Kubrick default WordPress theme, has had the CSS and markup completely rewritten and had some custom functionality added.  I often tire of my own theme so if you return from time to time, you are likely to see something different.
